Noise testing for wind turbines

Paul Boughton
Visitors to the Institute of Acoustics’ (IOA) Wind Energy meeting will have a chance to see noise specialist, Brüel & Kjær’s latest environmental tools.

During the meeting - held on Thursday 26th January at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff, Bruel & Kjaer UK’s environmental specialists will be demonstrating the company’s kit for testing wind turbines, including its 2250 and 2270 Sound Level Meters. These portable meters provide a complete toolbox for field testing, which allow users to measure, record and analyse results.

As noise plays an increasingly important role in wind energy, understanding noise reduction is a critical factor during the research, development and operation stages. Accurate tools are necessary to locate and evaluate the noise from every aspect of turbine design - from blades to nacelle insulation.

Organised by the IOA’s Welsh branch, the meeting will be a series of presentations and discussions centred on renewable energy.
