High-power connector includes signal contacts

Paul Boughton
Harting's Han Q 4/2 industrial connector is a high-current device combining four power contacts rated at 40A each, together with two signal contacts rated at 10A each. This product is now available with the company's rapid wiring technology for ease of field assembly.

While the 40A power contacts are connected using a standard hex key, the two 10A signal contacts feature the Han-Quick Lock termination technology that dispenses with the need for special tools; nothing more than a standard screwdriver is required.

The Han Q 4/2 is frequently used in conjunction with the Han Q 8/0 connector, which is also available in crimp and Han-Quick Lock versions. The mating faces of the two devices are identical, independent of the respective termination technology, and are therefore 100 per cent pin-compatible. This provides the option of selecting the most suitable termination technology on the device and cable side, according to customer applications and requirements.

Connector inserts fit the IP65 housings of the Han-Compact range, which are available as plastic and metal versions. Among other features, metal hoods are available with a separate PE (protective earth) ground terminal point that places the protection conductor at the housing potential.

This new connector means that housings are now available for all application areas and as high-protection types for the Han Q 4/2 axial screw and crimp versions, including plastic housings for interior areas, metal housings for outdoor and indoor use and housings with conductive surfaces for EMC applications.

Designed for use in industrial automation and drive systems, the Han Q 4/2 meets the requirements of DIN EN 61984. The power contacts are rated at 40A, 400-690V, 6kV 3, and have a conductor cross-section of 4-6mm2 (10mm2 optional), while the signal contacts are rated at 10A, 250V, 4kV 3, and have a conductor cross-section of 0.34-1.5mm2.
