AsiaTAC to include stainless steel training seminar

MTI’s 2009 AsiaTAC Meeting (formerly named SinoTAC) will be held at the Renaissance Zhongshan Park Hotel in Shanghai, 23rd–25th September. This year’s event will include a full-day stainless steel training seminar.

AsiaTAC Chair Henry Ye of DuPont believes that the region needs this type of forum. “MTI member companies are growing very fast in the Asia Pacific area in recent years,” he explains. “I know DuPont has already set up about 40 wholly owned plant sites and joint ventures. Dow Chemical, BASF, Bayer and many other member companies have an even heavier investment in this region. We are facing similar difficulties and challenges as we develop our businesses here.

“It is in our common interest to share our experiences and lessons. MTI AsiaTAC just provides an excellent platform so that we can get together to discuss our common problems and their solutions, of course, focusing on the technical aspect.”

Ye says as far as he knows, there are not many associations in the region that can connect global companies and arrange a joint effort to address common technical issues. “MTI is the one that can do it,” he says.

This year’s meeting agenda includes four panel discussions covering equipment fabrication and inspection, nickel-based alloys, corrosion under insulation, and gasket vendor qualification. MTI added the Stainless Steel Seminar because it was a very popular topic with attendees at previous meetings, according to Ye.

In addition to the panel discussions and seminar, AsiaTAC will feature an interactive forum, where technical questions are presented and often answered by experts in the audience. Organizers are also planning to provide updates on the glass-lined equipment, Chinese Material Standard (GB Standards), and fastener projects that were launched at the 2007 and 2008 meetings.

As was the case at past SinoTACs, AsiaTAC will offer many networking opportunities for attendees at breakfasts, lunches, and a dinner reception.

MTI does not charge a fee to participate in this conference; however, space is limited for this exclusive event and will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
