Stepping units added to integrated motion control family

Intelligent Motion Systems (IMS) is expanding its MDrivePlus all-in-one motion control product line with the addition of two new step-and-direction products: the MDrive14Plus Microstepping and the MDrive14Plus Half/Full Step. These ultra-compact MDrive14Plus products utilise a NEMA size 14 brushless 1.8-degree stepping motor and measure a mere 48x36x52mm.

According to IMS, these are useful for many motion applications where machine space is limited, such as in medical, biomedical, clinical chemistry platforms and laboratory automation.

While the MDrive14Plus Half/Full Step is suitable for basic applications requiring no more than half and full step, the MDrive14Plus Microstepping model is capable of full (256 x 200) microstepping. Features include +12 to +48V DC supply input, a choice of internal magnetic or external optical encoders with multiple line counts and index mark, and an extended operating range of -40 to +85 degrees C to provide long-life, trouble-free service in demanding environments.

Oversized input capacitors minimise power line surges and reduce problems that can occur with long runs and multiple drive systems. Claimed unsurpassed smoothness and performance is achieved through advanced second-generation current control. By applying innovative techniques to control current flow through the motor, resonance is significantly dampened over the entire speed range and audible noise is reduced.
