Encoder and incremental encoder in one device

Paul Boughton
Kübler is now offering its proven Sendix absolut CANopen Fieldbus encoders with an additional incremental track.

Parallel to the CANopen output this encoder outputs an additional TTL compatible signal with 2048 pulses per revolution. As well as the CANopen output, the encoder is also fitted with an RS422 interface, which outputs the signals A,/A, B,/B. This means it is possible to implement simultaneously both positioning via the CAN network and direct feedback of the speed – all in just one encoder. This saves on the costs and installation space that a second encoder would have entailed.

The device is equipped with the latest profiles with many extra functions. Using the variable PDO Mapping in the memory the user can decide which information is to be available in real-time. Intelligent functions, such as the transmission of speed, acceleration or exiting the work area, ensure fast data availability while reducing the load on the bus and controller.
The real-time position acquisition of the expanded CAN Sync Mode enables genuine time-synchronous position detection of several axes.

The Sendix technology, with its sturdy Safety-Lock bearing construction, high IP67 protection rating and wide temperature range from -40°C up to 80°C, facilitates use in harsh industrial environments - even outdoors. The devices offer a very high level of reliability thanks to the OptoASIC technology with the highest integration density (Chip-on-Board); this reduces the number of components and connection points to a minimum.

The removable bus terminal cover – with integrated galvanically isolated fieldbus nodes –  enables simple integration into the CANopen network. Start-up is easy, either directly at the unit thanks to easily-accessible DIP switches, or quickly and error-free by programming via the bus.
