Umbilicals and electromechanical cables

Paul Boughton

The Cortland Companies is a provider of highly engineered umbilicals, electromechanical cables, synthetic rope and steel cable solutions used in harsh environments and exacting applications within the offshore oil and gas, geophysical survey, marine transport, commercial diving, medical, military and aerospace sectors.

Cortland pioneered the use of Vectran braid for seismic streamer strength members that reduced the size and weight of cables and was one of the key enabling technologies that allowed the deployment of up to 22 6Km cables behind one vessel.

In addition, Cortland developed the ultra small diameter armored seismic tow cable that effectively reduced the drag of the seismic array.
