Panel access hardware tolerates misalignment

Paul Boughton
The latest PEM floating access hardware is a captive screw assembly for permanent installation into panels of any hardness with the capability to compensate for up to 1.52mm mating thread misalignment. The licensed Mathread anti-cross-threading screw technology adds value by correcting off-angle installations and reliably aligning components.

These floating panel fasteners (Type PF11MW with knurled cap and Type PF12MW with smooth cap) enable subsequent access to an assembly. Type PF11MW fasteners meet 'operator access area' requirements similar to UL 508 and type PF12MW fasteners meet 'service access area' requirements similar to UL 1950. A universal slot/Phillips recess is standard.

They are suitable for close centreline-to-edge applications and can be installed on painted surfaces without marring. Installation requires only minimal force with a punch and anvil to flare the retainer. A shoulder on the retainer provides a positive stop. The anti cross-thread feature contributes to quick installation by aligning thread helixes for easy driving of fasteners with reduced effort.

Thread sizes range from M3 through M6 and similar imperial sizes. The fasteners are supplied with mating washers and options include a scratch-proof Durablack finish.
