Inverters enable users to specify functionality

Lenze will use the April 2008 Hannover Show to launch the L-force 8400 frequency inverters, a modular range of tailored drives that let customers select the 'Rightsize' for their needs.

Initially available as single-phase models up to 2.2kW and three-phase up to 11kW, the range will rapidly expand into higher powers. As part of the Lenze L-force portfolio, easy integration into Lenze control systems is assured.

One of the advantages of 'Rightsizing' is that customers pay only for the features and functions they need. The modular approach initially covers three designs. The Baseline is the entry-level model of the series in terms of functionality and drive behaviour. This modern and all-purpose frequency inverter is suitable for drive tasks with steady movement, as is the case with conveyor drives, pumps, blower and fans.

The Stateline is best suited to applications with and without speed feedback. It is therefore used for applications that require networking across bus systems. With integrated brake control, integrated PID, flying restart circuit and further features, Stateline is good for controlled movement.

The Highline version includes added functionality for more complex tasks. In particular, software is built in for positioning and indexing.

All three versions have the same dimensions and fixings to aid panel design. Furthermore, all versions feature a pluggable memory module that holds all the parameter settings. This feature allows for off-line programming, easy software updates and makes exchanging an inverter a simple task.

L-force engineer software at the entry level is free of charge and customers can opt for more powerful versions if they need the extra functionality. Canopen is integrated and other pluggable fieldbus modules are available as optional extras.

Many more cost-saving features are offered with the 8400 inverters such as Safe Torque Off, operation with IT mains and RoHS compliance. Performance is claimed to be second-to-none, with 200 per cent overload capacity, very fast response, S-ramps and a 45 degrees C ambient rating without derating. The modularity of the 8400 range, and the ability to match the drive to the need, leads to 'Rightsize' drives saving costs and optimising performance.
