‘Breakthrough’ interrupter switches

The Scada-Mate CX Switch is 40 per cent smaller and 20 per cent lighter than the company's standard range and has been specifically designed to meet the increased need for reliable service.

Rated at 630A continuous and interrupting at voltage ratings of 14.4kV and 25kV, the three-pole, group-operated interrupter switches are a breakthrough for economically automating overhead distribution systems.

Switches feature a five-time duty-cycle fault-closing rating of 20,000 amperes RMS asymmetrical. Circuit making and breaking are accomplished within sealed interrupters in a controlled sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) environment. Interrupter position is clearly visible on the open/closed indicator on the side of the switch.

Scada-Mate CX Switches are factory-assembled on a one-piece base and include an integral stored-energy operating mechanism. In addition to electrically operating the interrupters, the operating mechanism provides non-electrical mechanical opening and closing of the interrupters by means of a manual-operation pull ring. The switch can be locked open to prevent electrical or manual closing.

Units are available in upright configurations with the options of extra mounting-pole clearance fitting and compact, alley arm, models. The range has also been designed for easy upgrading such as the addition of three-phase S&C Current Sensors, or three-phase S&C Current/Voltage Sensors on one side of the switch. Alternately, S&C sensors or sensors of other manufacture can be added later. An S&C control unit for or control unit of other manufacture can be added at any time, making the switch ideal for source transfer or remote supervisory control applications.
