Process Engineer - Wastewater Management

Use of waste energy for fuel preparation

Price and availability are essential aspects for modern industry. Europe is dependent on import of primary energy. qqqAnd the security of supply for primary energy is increasingly uncertain.

Additionally Europe did commit itself to the targets of the Kyoto protocol. Accordingly a significant price increase for primary energy is to be expected.
Obvious is to treat waste -- such as municipal sludge which is already partly used for thermal utilisation -- in a qualified drying process to gain a product easy to handle with a high heating value comparable with brown coal.
Highly qualified is belt drying -- a well-tried process -- but it is all about the way how it is done to lead a product to success.
Andritz AG has therefore combined proven components of the sludge drying technology (closed air loop, back mixing) in the belt drying technology to form a simple, robust and competitive process.
One of the most important advantages of this process is the highly flexible heat source which can be almost any type of waste heat such as low pressure steam, hot water or exhaust gases for which no other sensible use exists.
The origin of the process lays in drying of sugar beet, grass, rape and wood chips.
With the further developed belt dryer system it is also possible to dry bark, saw dust and other types of biomass waste using waste heat from thermal processes.
By this the heating value can be increased and a boiler primary energy demand significantly reduced.
