Alternative combustion control approach to cut fuel costs
A decade or so ago, most power generation combustion control was done by measuring outlet excess oxygen and adjusting inlet air.
A crude measurement of combustibles might also have been made, with an accuracy of maybe ±125ppm, which helped advanced users spot issues like burner problems. Nowadays though, alongside excess oxygen monitoring, a growing number of users are making use of combustibles analysers with higher accuracy and response time (eg ±25ppm and a T90 response time of <20 seconds), such as the Servomex2700C. These users operate a ‘hunting’ control system that reduces excess oxygen until the first signs of combustibles break through are seen, then marginally increase excess oxygen again until it disappears.
