Subsea applications: bolt tensioning and flange pulling tools

Tentec, the manufacturer and supplier of bolt tensioning Equipment, has launched the Optimus 6 series of subsea bolt tensioning and flange pulling tools.

The Optimus 6 family comprises bolt tensioning tools, a flange pulling system (FPS), subsea hose reels and pumps, as well as the unique Optimus Bolt Load  Software. Tentec’s equipment has been used in the North Sea since 1991 and Optimus 6 continues the tradition of proven reliability and  safety. Designed to withstand the demanding requirements of divers  working in these harsh conditions, this new range incorporates many features.

To minimise maintenance and prevent early corrosion, the bolt  tensioning tools and FPS, as well as the hose reels are all  manufactured in high grade, anti corrosive stainless steel.

For divers, the Optimus 6 bolt tensioning tools with quick acting  split reaction nuts have been developed for ease of use, as well as  reducing diver fatigue, while increasing productivity. Its ergonomic
design incorporating lifting straps for easy handling and non-slip  tool surface combines with its compact design to maximise tool  suitability. Designed with highest pulling force of all systems on the
market, the FPS cylinders can each pull with a force up to 259kN and  up to 4 cylinders can be used together to achieve a total pulling  force of 1036kN. The system also features automatic collet release  that means there is no need for diver intervention between each  pulling stroke.

Two hose reels are available in the series. A compact model, measuring  only 885mm x 933mm and a standard reel at 535mm x 1321mm. Both reels  have capacity for 600m of bolt tensioning flexible hose or 300m of  twin hose. With an integrated high pressure quick connection coupling  and a locking facility that allows the reel to be unattended during  pressurisation, these subsea hose reels ensure fast, efficient and  safe operations.

Finally, Tentec has developed a bolted joint software package that  provides all necessary documentation for topside and subsea bolt  tensioning projects. The software can rapidly produce both individual  flange data sheets and project summary documents.
