Hitachi Display Products Group is launching the new TX14D22VM1BAA 5.7inch quarter-VGA TFT display that features a new super-slim form factor, quarter-VGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution and a high-brightness LED backlight.

Mark Stephenson, product marketing manager, comments: "A complete product redesign has enabled our design engineers to significantly impact product cost, enhance optical performance and reduce power consumption, while ensuring the new module provides a highly cost-effective solution for new or existing equipment designs. The resulting enhancements ensure that Hitachi maintains its ability to provide customers with the product they need when seeking a high quality, cost-effective 5.7inch 1/4-VGA display solution."

The new module design implements a two-driver chip-on-glass (COG) construction that simplifies manufacture and provides increased display robustness and enhanced reliability. The new TX14D22VM1BAA has compact dimensions of 131.0mm (w) x 102.2mm (h) x 7.1mm (d). Hitachi's existing 5.7inch quarter-VGA modules have a thickness of 10.9mm while the new design of TX14D22VM1BAA features a 35 per cent reduction (in thickness) and a subsequent weight reduction to just 150g.

Exceptional optical performance is maintained with an impressive 350:1 contrast ratio and a robust high-brightness LED backlight that ensures excellent image uniformity while delivering a brightness of 400cd/m2 and a typical lifetime of 40,000 hours. The TX14D22VM1BAA implements an industry-standard six-bit RGB CMOS data interface that enables a colour palette of up to 262k colours to be displayed.

The new lightweight and compact TX14D22VM1BAA is partnered with a touch-panel version, namely the TX14D22VM1BPA. Both modules are mechanically compatible in all respects (other than the thickness of the module) with existing Hitachi 5.7inch quarter-VGA display modules, enabling existing users to migrate easily to the new models. Both modules are suitable for industrial and consumer handheld and battery-powered devices and applications.

Hitachi's TX14D22VM1BAA and TX14D22VM1BPA display modules are supplied via Hitachi Display Products Group distribution partners and are available across Europe immediately.
