Processor, with LCD controller, for extended-reliability

e2v’s PC8610 is a versatile integrated processor combining a high-performance e600 core built on Power Architecture technology, a System-on-Chip (SoC) platform and an LCD controller.

“This integrated processor is built on the e600 Power Architecture which is already massively used in image processing applications such as guidance, video processing, and aircraft cockpit displays”, said Eric Marcelot, e2v’s Hi-Rel Microprocessors Marketing Manager. “The high level of integration of this product reduces the number of external devices and buses to be routed on the board, thus enabling system designers to significantly reduce their overall system costs by simplifying their board architecture”.

The PC8610 features a single e600 core running at up to 1333 MHz with an extended-temperature range of -40˚C to 110˚C.

With its 256KB backside L2-cache with ECC, and its AltiVec 128-bit vector processing unit, the PC8610 delivers the level of performance required by computation-intensive tasks such as image processing or display applications.

The embedded LCD controller supports real-time display of 24 bits per pixel with a maximum resolution of SXGA (1280 x 1024). The integrated DDR2 memory controller and the two PCI-Express ports are providing the bandwidth to feed the processor with data, while the 32-bit PCI2.2 bus supports connectivity to the legacy PCI subsystems.

The PC8610 is manufactured on Freescale’s 90nm process technology and is now available in an extended-temperature range (-40°C to 110°C), and e2v also plans to support the military-temperature version (-55°C to 125°C) of the product in the first quarter of 2009.
