Lighting technology improves on LEDs

Sagentia has developed a breakthrough lighting technology that is claimed to be a vast improvement over existing technology on the market. The technology was developed while Sagentia was working on a medical lighting project with Brandon Medical.

The new HD LED technology includes all the benefits of high brightness LED technology - such as infrared-free cool light, long life, shadow control and energy efficiency - yet the technical challenges traditionally presented by LEDs are said to have been resolved - including extremely high colour rendition, thermal management and low cost.

The lamps for Brandon Medical, which are optimised for natural daylight colour temperatures, are the first products to feature this new HD LED technology. With full spectrum colour rendition, the Brandon lamps are said to be the first LED lighting system with 'near-perfect colour rendition' across the full visible spectrum.

In addition, red balance enhancement compensates for humans' natural weakness in distinguishing shades of red. The new lamps also offer broad, adjustable light beams with more light available across the full width of the illuminated area.

Potential applications extend beyond medical into other areas where very high-quality, low-cost white light could be beneficial, such as in film and TV, museums, architectural and retail industries.
