Ethernet switches are rated at IP67

Belden is expanding its Hirschmann product offering to include new IP67-rated switches in the company's Octopus family of networking devices. These provide eight twisted-pair (100 Base-TX) as well as two fibre-optic uplink (1000 Base-FX) ports, as well as comprehensive management functions. The twisted-pair ports are designed as four-pin M12-D connectors. The fibre-optic uplinks are available in Profinet or Ethernet/IP versions according to ISO/IEC 61076-3-106 Variant 1 or Variant 4, respectively.

Furthermore, the new IP67 switches support fast redundancy techniques and various security mechanisms. Functions that can be managed per SNMP v1, v2 and v3 or Telnet include redundancy mechanisms such as Rapid Spanning Tree and Hiper Ring, the latter for access control according to IEEE 802.1x, as well as filtering options per port, Flow Control with prioritisation and Traffic Shaping.

An entire configuration can be saved on site by means of an auto-configuration adapter and an interface also protected to IP67. In this way, the devices can easily be exchanged if required. For reasons of redundancy, the switches can be powered by two independent 24V DC or 36V DC supplies.

The switches of the Octopus family, which is complemented by an unmanaged five-port device, are designed for an operating temperature range of -40 to +70 degrees C. Moreover, they also meet the high EMC requirements in trains and vehicles and cope with the mechanical loads in these environments. Finally, the devices comply with the requirements of the European standard for railway equipment applications, EN 50155.
