Fastening loops moulded directly on plastic parts

Aplix, a specialist in self-gripping fasteners, will showcase its inter-mould technology at the Elmia Polymer trade show, which takes place in Jönköping, Sweden, from 5-8 May 2009. The inter-mould fastening technology enables hooks to be injection-moulded directly into plastic parts, so users can eliminate the need for adhesives and ultrasonic welding.

This technology is implemented by means of tooling inserts that create small hooks. The hooks are moulded during a standard injection cycle (one-shot). The process is environmentally friendly, as it reduces the need for adhesives, and also enables users to develop products with more innovative designs.

The inter-mould technology is compatible with a range of materials, including polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide, polyacetal (POM), thermoplastic elastomers (Shore D) and Victrex Peek. The inter-mould hooks can fasten to a large variety of loop-bearing materials, including texturised and brushed loops.

According to Aplix, the inter-mould technology has applications in the automotive, medical, cleaning, civil-engineering and boating sectors - as well as many others. It is protected by a number of patents throughout the world.
