Solido says it is raising the bar again in desktop 3D printing of physical models. Cost-effective, time-efficient and intuitive, the SD300 Pro will sell for less than $10,000 (USD).

Solido's intensive research in design and production on the new SD300 Pro will make printing of 3D models from a desktop more affordable. Company sources reveal that the SD300 Pro will be unveiled at the PTC Forum in Orlando in June 2009. The convention in Orlando will celebrate PTC's 20th anniversary and a large gathering is expected.

Itzik Marchand, Solido CEO, states: "As pioneers of a new and affordable price category, we believe we are launching a new era of applications. 3D desktop printers will be used extensively by creative professionals beyond what has been realised to date. Our printers are unique in that they carry no hidden costs. They will be, in every sense, the first available printers at such a price."

The SD300 Pro uses layers of firm but flexible engineered plastics. The finished models have a similar appearance to injected plastic parts and can be drilled, sanded or painted as desired. Output from the SD300 Pro can also be designed to fold, allowing for the benefit of model manipulation. Furthermore, the SD300 Pro is capable of producing transparent models, which the company claims to be a unique feature.

Typical applications for the SD300 Pro include the preparation of proof-of-concept models, ergonomic evaluations and marketing tools. The SD300 Pro will also serve as an advanced educational tool for universities and technical colleges.
