Noise-free rubber for automotive applications

Trelleborg Automotive is launching Trelleborg Noise-Free Rubber, a self-lubricated, low-friction rubber formulation that overcomes noise issues associated with certain automotive applications. The new rubber builds on the success of similar Trelleborg products and offers significant benefits to automotive manufacturers. These include improved dynamic properties while reducing noise in specific anti-vibration system components, such as anti-roll bar isolators, suspension bushings and engine mounts. The product has also been engineered to meet stringent fatigue requirements, the result of which is an increase in durability of around 50 per cent.

Wade Singler, technical manager at Trelleborg Automotive, comments: "Trelleborg Automotive's Noise-Free Rubber solution upholds the need to eliminate noise from suspension components while the vehicle is in motion. Thanks to its ability to lower the friction coefficient of the rubber surface, sound that would otherwise be produced when rubber meets painted or other rubber surfaces, is prevented.

"The introduction of our Noise-Free Rubber material underscores Trelleborg's philosophy of listening to the changing needs of our customers and developing specific products to meet those requirements.

"Although Trelleborg has been using similar noise-free rubber materials for a number of years, this variant is unique in that it has far superior fatigue properties and bonds well to other rubber materials. This extends the number of possible applications and allows customers to use the material where it was previously not possible."
