Wider range of intelligent servo devices

Elau, Schneider Electric's packaging automation specialist, is expanding its range of Intelligent Servo Modules. The new 140mm frame size iSH-140 models feature a continuous torque rating of 11.5Nm, enabling packaging machinery OEMs to power larger mechanisms that previously required conventional servos.

Following the success of its iSH Series Intelligent Servo Module technology introduced in 2007, Elau has expanded the power range to handle applications such as main transport conveyors, carousels and other mechanisms with higher inertias. In many cases, this extends the benefits of plug-and-play cabling, modular flexibility, reduced wiring and electrical cabinet size to the entire machine.

With the new 140mm frame size iSH 140, the servo modules from Elau cover a continuous torque range of 1.1-11.5Nm, with peak torque extended to 50Nm. The new servo modules are fully compatible with existing systems in terms of software and functionally.

Previously, higher power applications might have required one or two conventional servo motors with cabinet-mounted drives in addition to servo modules. This technological advance is said to represent another step in the direction of consistently modular, integrated packaging machinery in terms of mechanical, electronic and software systems. In addition, electrical cabinet space, cable lengths, installation and wiring time and component costs are further reduced.

The iSH-140 Intelligent Servo Modules will be introduced by Elau at SPS/IPC/Drives 2008, Nuremberg, in hall 4, booth 410.
