Expoxy cures at -25˚C

Master Bond has developed a novel curing mechanism that enables epoxies to be cured reasonably fast even at very low ambient temperatures.

Based on this breakthrough, Master Bond is introducing Polymer System EP37LV-1, a two-component, low-viscosity, water- and chemical-resistant high-performance epoxy composition that is capable of curing at temperatures as low as -25°C. It has a physical tensile strength in excess of 57Mn/m2 (8300psi).

The working life of the EP37LV-1 system is around 30minutes at room temperature, and the low viscosity of both components – and the final mix viscosity of around 5000cps – makes mixing exceptionally easy in all temperatures. Cures occur quickly at ambient temperatures, with full cures obtained in 8–10hours, while complete cures will take longer at lower temperatures.

Master Bond EP37LV-1 has superb electrical insulation properties with volume resistivity of 1016ohm-cm. The product features excellent resistance to prolonged immersions in water, dilute acids and alkalis, acetone, toluene and other liquid media. It readily accepts high quantities of aggregates, sand and other earth materials.

Its current applications range from grouting, trowelling and concrete patching in damp locations, to marine coatings, floor toppings and solder substitutes for copper pipe joints. Bond shear strength for copper pipe joints exceeds 9MN/m2 (1350psi).
