CUI Inc has developed a modular incremental encoder - the AMT - which utilises CUI's proprietary capacitive technology, which holds numerous advantages over the optical technology typically used in today's modular encoders.
The AMT's design allows users to select from a range of resolutions via an on-board dip switch, creating flexibility for those utilising multiple encoders in their applications.
Additionally, common problems associated with optical encoders, including fragility of the optical disk, led burn-out, limited temperature range, and high current consumption are eliminated by capacitive technology.
The AMT comes standard with a DIP switch on the PCB which allows the user to set the resolution from 48 to 2048 PPR. It also includes an index pulse as a standard feature.
The AMT is available in two mounting options: AMT102 is radial (straight orientation) and AMT103 is axial (right angle orientation).
With the disk built-in to the top cover, the assembly is very quick and easy. The design is a drop-in replacement for other industry standard optical units, but is easier to assemble and approximately half the height. The versatility and ease of use of the AMT means that it can be used for a variety of applications.
