Power supply meets railway standard

MEN Mikro Elektronik has announced a power supply in accordance with EN 50155 railway standard.

The new product is equipped with an integrated heat sink and is qualified for an operation temperature between -40 and 85degC. The electronics is conformally coated against humidity and the components on board are secured against shock and vibration.

To cope with the requirements regarding the different voltage inputs on a train or also on a bus, the power supply provides a wide input voltage range between 9 Volts and 140 Volts.

Three different versions with a nominal input voltage of 20 VDC, 48 VDC or 72 VDC are available - each with 3.3 Volts and 5 Volts output voltage. The power is 35 Watts for all three versions.

The PSU (power supply unit) is controlled by a microprocessor which supervises three external inputs and three external outputs as well as voltage and temperature.

Thanks to the on-board intelligence the PSU can also act as an SMBus slave and communicate with the CPU board via the backplane. This allows the PSU to power-on the system at a programmed date or it allows the CPU card to make status polls with regard to error messages, time-out, on/off, for example.

The pluggable power supply in single Eurocard format (3U) was designed for use in 19” systems and needs only two slots (8 TE).
